- Lancha (boat): departures from Mercado Modelo (Salvador), arriving at Mar Grande (Island) within 45 minutes.

- Ferry Boat: departures from Terminal (harbor) São Joaquim (Salvador), arriving at Bom Despacho (Island) within 45 minutes.

- Catamarã (high speed boat): departuring from Terminal (harbor) São Joaquim (Salvador) arriving at Bom Despacho (Island) within 25 minutes.

Bus Station in the Island (Terminal de Bom Despacho): Local transportation system offers vans and busses to all destinations in the Island.

Driving or by bus: 285 Km (179 miles) from Salvador to the Itaparica Island. Take BR 324 freeway to BR 101 freeway going to Ponte do Funil (bridge that conects the Island to the continent).

By Air: There is a small airport (aeródromo) in the Island that handles medium size aircrafts (up to 50 passengers). There is also a big airport in the city of Valença (one hour driving from the Island) that handles big size aircrafts.
